Self Assessment Tax Returns in Walton-on-Thames
If you are self-employed, a partner in a business or have income that is not taxed at source, you will usually need to send HMRC a Self Assessment tax return each year. No Hassle Accounts prepares and files the return for you, working from your records.
We prepare returns for sole traders, business partners, members of limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and others who need to file. That includes construction subcontractors who have had CIS deductions taken from their pay.
What our Self Assessment service typically includes
- Checking which income needs to go on your return
- Preparing your return from your records and paperwork
- Working out the tax and National Insurance due
- Going through the figures with you before we file
- Filing the return online with HMRC and telling you what to pay and when
Who needs to file a Self Assessment return?
GOV.UK sets out who must send a tax return. Common reasons include:
- you are a self-employed sole trader who earned more than £1,000 before expenses
- you are a partner in a business partnership
- you have income from renting out property
- you have other untaxed income, such as some savings interest, dividends or foreign income
- you owe Capital Gains Tax or the High Income Child Benefit Charge
If you are not sure whether you need to file, get in touch and tell us about your income.
What we need from you
- Your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) and National Insurance number
- Your business income and expenses for the tax year, or your bookkeeping records
- Your P60 or P45 if you were also employed, and details of any benefits
- CIS payment and deduction statements, if you are a construction subcontractor
- Rental income and expenses, if you let property
- Details of savings interest, dividends, pension income and any other income
- Pension contributions and Gift Aid donations
Our article on keeping your Self Assessment records organised explains what to keep and for how long. If your records need regular attention, our bookkeeping service can keep them up to date through the year.
When is the Self Assessment deadline?
For the 2025 to 2026 tax year, the online return and any tax owed are due by 31 January 2027. GOV.UK has the full list of Self Assessment deadlines, including the date to register if you are filing for the first time.
Sending your records early means you know your tax bill well before it is due.
CIS subcontractors
If a contractor has taken CIS deductions from your pay, those deductions count towards your tax and National Insurance bill. They are taken into account on your Self Assessment return, and if too much was deducted HMRC repays the difference. Our CIS and construction accounting page explains more.
LLP and partnership returns
A limited liability partnership (LLP) carrying on a business is normally taxed like a partnership. The LLP sends a partnership tax return and each individual member sends their own return showing their share of the profits.
We prepare partnership returns for LLPs and personal returns for members. If your LLP also needs year-end accounts for Companies House, tell us when you get in touch.
Landlords and rental income
If you rent out property, your rental income and allowable expenses usually go on your Self Assessment return. We prepare returns for landlords with one property or several. Please send us your rental statements, letting agent statements and a list of expenses for the year.
Frequently asked questions
Can you file my return if I have never filed one before?
Yes. If you have not filed before, you need to register for Self Assessment first. GOV.UK sets the registration date on its deadlines page.
Do you prepare returns for LLP members?
Yes. We prepare the LLP’s partnership return and the members’ personal returns.
What happens if I have missed the deadline?
Get in touch as soon as you can. HMRC charges penalties for late returns, and penalties and interest on late payment, so it is best not to wait.
